About Southern Navigators
Southern Navigators and Orienteering

Orienteering is a timed sport where competitors of all ages and abilities
navigate their way at their own pace between features marked on a
special map. An orienteering course varies in length from about 2 km
with 8 control points for beginners and children to over 10 km for
experienced adult orienteers. At all events there will be a range of
courses suitable for newcomers. These events will often be referred to
as Colour Coded - this just means they follow a similar colour grade
system not unlike Judo, white is easy, black is hardest! Orienteering
takes place, mainly on Sundays, on a wide range of outdoor sites ranging
from parks, countryside, forest and moorlands. Although look to our
fixtures page and our complete program of introductory events on the
first Saturday of each month.

Here you have a chance to share your vision or mission statement.
Your local orienteering club is "Southern Navigators" (SN) and is one of the longest established clubs in Britain
being formed by Chris Brasher and John Disley in 1965. The membership of about 130 comes from the general
area of West Surrey, NorthEast Hampshire and South Berkshire. The club organises events in your area
(Namely: Aldershot, Alton, Bagshot, Bordon, Bracknell, Byfleet, Camberley, Farnborough, Farnham, Frimley
and Woking). We promotes a series of Introductory/Junior League events on Saturday mornings during the
winter season and training sessions for all on most Wednesday evenings in the summer. Look to the school
link to get details of the latest event.

SN maintains the permanent '0' course at Alice Holt and tries to hold some small social events throughout the
year; communication being primarily through the club magazine "SNAGGERS" which is produced six times a
year.
