Once a great venue, the area suffered badly from the great storm, much of the area left top naturally recover means it is no longer ideal orienteering terrain, however through work by the FC the land improves from month to month

Top quality terrain, vast areas of open heath providing a sense of remoteness in busy surrey. Often used for national events and regional; represents one of our best areas

Located outside the boundary fence of Ash ranges this area is well visited by the public for MTB and dog walking. One large hill dominates in the middle, numerous paths and some good point and contour features makes this an ideal club training facility with something for all standards

Bagshot ( & Lightwater country Park)
Bagshot heath presents an unusual challenge made up of a combination of twisting hard standing tracks used to test off road vehicles mixed again with tracks caused by the action of MTBs and dog walkers. Adjunct to Lightwater country park, used less now with a ban on running off path in the heather

Fantastic although underused area, rates as one of my favourites. Very steep hill with plateau full of depressions - Excellent technical terrain - not for the faint hearted - brilliantly tough at night especially!

Pleasant small area with good hills, very runnable, reasonable parking on wide rides. OK for schools leagues

Congo Stream (Mytchett triangle)
Small area (part of Mytchett map), half open (army campground, handy car-park), half wooded. Due to large numbers of features (mainly pits) and few paths this is a technical area. Ideal for short race/relay. Summer undergrowth limited.

Currently being re-mapped.
Small, part forested, part open. Very 'pleasant' area, but not technical. Many paths and dogs. Ideal for short-race, OK for schools league. All of area is part of Brentmoor nature reserve (Surrey wildlife trust), so permission may be difficult.

A grotty area full of long grass, cows, dogs and fences. The few bits that are forested you'll need a machete for. Ideal for cows

Very open park land heavily used by the public, with numerous football matches ongoing in the winter. Low technical O standard - good for a stretch of the legs as a quick dash in the summer.

Very runnable area with good contours, many pits and depressions. Varied forest/rough open with plenty of hard standing providing good car-parking. Ideal for relays. OK for district event. Limited undergrowth in summer

Combines Frith (as above) giving a contrasting area that is very hilly, with numerous pits. Mainly forested and runnable except for june-october. Great for technical medium races.

Forested area adjacent to Ash ranges, but outside the range fence. Possible summer limitations on access. Divided into 3 areas. To the north runnable undulating area with few features. To the south west is woodland with rhododendrons surrounding Henley lake. To the South east is slow-run woodland with ditches and no paths. There is some dead running between north and south. OK for schools league

Brilliant area- very hilly producing good route choice. Predominantly runnable with some holly. OK for a regional event, but car-parking may be a problem

Merrist Wood & Cobbet Hill
Merrist is an ancient deciduous wood, mainly runnable with rhododendrons, and stinging nettles in summer. Quite small (short-race size). Good parking in college.
Cobbet is to the west, mainly open, hard-going heather with few paths and many large aerials. Permission is difficult

My favourite and possible one of the best areas in the SE - good enough to host a World Cup relay race (in combination with Windmill Hill). Heavily scarred by the actions of MTBs and the military the land is blessed with small and large contour features across a mixture of vegetation

Small mainly wooded area, not so good in summer when the undergrowth is bad. Many paths, lots of use by the public. Large enough for short race. Good curry house on map.

Large enough for a district event. Mixed open/woodland. Many paths. Few features, those that are there are small (and hard to find in summer when undergrowth is high). River liable to flooding in spring.

Half wooded, half open, with many paths. All areas are very runnable, and there are a reasonable number of features. Ideal for schools league. If the area to the West of the A3 (mousehill) is used (there is a bridge under the A3) the area is big enough (and good enough) for a district event)

Very pleasant area, dissected by the A3 and M25 which limits planning. The area is very runnable, a bit boggy in the northwest. The best bit is around the southwest with vague paths and gullies. Reasonable parking on the area. Big enough for a district event
