British Championship success for SN
Congratulations to Sarah Rollins, W40 long distance champion
While the rest of the royal family were at Windsor for Harry & Meghan's wedding, we were running around Balmoral estate. Sarah ran considerably faster than the other W40's, and Steve Keyes also picked up a notable bronze medal in M55.
About 20 SN members had ventured all the way to Scotland for this year's British Long Distance and Relay Championships weekend. For most it was a return to Royal Deeside after the Scottish 6-Days in 2017, but on areas that were not used for that event.
The grounds of Balmoral Castle provided a grand backdrop for the assembly field, and the fine weather on the day completed the sense of occasion.
The relays took place at Torphantrick near Ballater on a technical area of moraine alongside the River Dee. SN's only podium finish was a second place in Mens Short class, just 4 minutes down on BOK after a consistent team performance from Frank Townley (great first leg), father Laurence and Nick Cooper. The W40 team finished 4th, unable to hold onto the first leg lead gained by Sarah. Thank you to all the other SN relay participants who made the long journey north and enjoyed a fine weekend of Scottish terrain.
