Easter comes early for the lucky six
SN success at Sunset & Beyond
The SN team of Gill, Sarah F, Cameron, Paul F, Paul M and Alan finished second in the SOC Sunset & Beyond relay on Sat 2nd March. All won an early Easter egg for their efforts! Thanks team and well run.
With this event being a handicapped race, it was difficult to know what tactics had been employed by others, and with mini mass starts occurring for Legs 4, 5 and 6 it was impossible to tell who was where until everyone had returned. SN started steady, and were 8th (out of 8) at end of Leg 2, but some storming runs from the later runners in the mass starts pulled us right up the rankings (unbeknown to us at the time!), and we all went home with more chocolate than when we arrived.
SOC are trying to make this an annual event of park/urban night racing, with only the first leg being in full daylight (start was at 5pm). The use of a village hall or pub for an event centre makes it sociable, and compressing the whole event into max 5 hours, and with a spectator control on every leg, keeps it alive despite the relatively small number of teams. I hope that SN can send more than one team next year, and any of those who have taken part in 2018 or 2019 will tell you how much fun it was.
