SN has a British Champion!

Congratulations to Alice Leake

On Saturday 30th September the orienteering world descended on Campbell Park in Milton Keynes and SN member Alice Leake came away with the Womens Elite title in the British Sprint Championships.

There were also podium appearances in the Sprint discipline for Richard Barrett (2nd in M45) and Sue Bett (3rd in W50). After morning qualification races in a nearby residential area, the finals involved (for most) a clockwise tour of Campbell Park's ornamental gardens and wooded fringes with some intricate path and vegetation detail linked with some flat-out running sections.

The Middle Distance Championships at Wendover Woods on Sunday 1st October used a newly re-surveyed map with plenty of small earth features (pits, depressions and knolls) and variable runnability on the steep wooded slopes. There were no SN winners, but Alice continued her form with a 3rd place in Womens Elite. Other podium finishes belonged to Laurence Townley (2nd in M45), Pete Jones (2nd in M60), and a rare appearance for long serving member Mac Gollifer (3rd in M85).

Congratulations to all of our successful athletes this weekend.
