SN success at BOC2019 weekend
Individual & relay medallists
SN came home from Yorkshire with medals from all three days of the British Championships weekend. Congratulations to all on their performances in the varied terrain and different disciplines. All the results can be studied in detail via BOC2019 results pages
The urban Mixed Sprint Relays took place on the campus of Bradford University. The Young Juniors team of Charlotte, Aidan and Tommy got a silver medal behind SYO, and the Veteran team of Sarah, Mel and Richard was the highest placed team with two women (all teams had to be mixed, most had two men), finishing 5th out of 27 teams.
The individual long distance race was on the limestone plateau and fast grasslands of Kilnsey Moor. There were podium places for Sarah Rollins (2nd in W40), and Mel Slade (3rd in W50), and a creditable 4th place in M21E for Peter Bray, less than 3 minutes behind the winner.
The weekend culminated in the forest relays based at the South Leeds Stadium, with a grandstand for spectators, and a final run-in around the athletics track. The adjacent competition area of Middleton Park was tricky, with lots of pits and thickets to confuse anyone who lost concentration, and the distraction of an unfenced working steam railway alongside the final approach to the arena!
The SN M/W12 team of Charlotte, Aidan and Tommy got revenge on their SYO rivals (who had beaten them in the sprint relay) by overtaking them on the final leg to take the title, with Tommy recording the fastest leg of the day. The W40 team regained the trophy which they last held in 2016, with a dominant performance from Sarah, Carol and Mel. The W14 team of Jocie, Laura and Rebecca also made it onto the podium with third place in the W14 class. A great finish to the weekend!
