SN Summer Activities

Update 24 May

Last edited: Wed 24 May 2023

These evening activities are informal and free to SN club members, and newcomers are always welcome. SN Superstars is confirmed for Weds 12th July (pre-entry via Racesignup is required, with a charge to cover the BBQ).

Keep an eye on the Events page and your email for further information. Emails have been sent this week with a request for organisers/helpers plus information on coaching for improvers, and our new Track-to-Terrain initiative (aimed specifically at newcomers). For most activities you can just turn up on the night. Read more below.

Track-to-Terrain (T2T) is a new initiative aimed at introducing people to the sport through a series of free taster sessions at the same place and time on three different dates (7 June, 21 June, 5 July). It will build from a basic introduction to the concept of the sport and our specially prepared maps, to the challenge of choosing a route and using the map to help you follow it accurately. We will need experienced members to assist beginners and potentially to shadow them around the course and explain things as you go. Please encourage your friends, work colleagues and running club mates to come along and give it a go - our best recruiters are often existing members who can share their enthusiasm and enjoyment with someone they already know.

In parallel Katherine Bett is running a series of coaching sessions aimed at improvers at four different venues over four weeks (31 May, 7/14/21 June). These sessions can be attended singly but are designed to be a progression from week to week, building skill and confidence through a series of technique-based exercises. Please reply to Katherine if you intend to come along so she can plan the delivery of each session.

And finally we will fill in as many as possible of the remaining Wednesday evenings from now til September with some informal training which will usually just be a single suggested course but with options to short-cut or just go for a run with a map and set your own challenge or skill to practice. If nothing else it's a weekly social opportunity and a chance to meet other club members or discuss recent events.

Please offer to organise or help if you can. None of these things happen without volunteer effort. Check for further details in the respective emails and keep an eye on the events pages as some later venues have yet to be confirmed.
